Joey's Karate Tournament

Joey went to his first karate tournament with the new school.  It was held in the Randolph Middle School Gym and there were around 200 participants.  Joey took first place in his division for sparring and first place for kata.

Photography Contest

Danielle and I went to Joey and Ryan's school for a meeting.  While in the main office, I took this picture of two photographs hanging on the wall.  One is Michael's and the other is Joey's.  Both photographs won awards for creativity in a yearly contest sponsored by the school district (the theme for the top picture was recycling, and the theme for the bottom picture was diversity).  It made me proud to see both pictures hanging there.

13th Birthday

Guess who officially turned into a teenager in January?  Michael had a list of movies he's been waiting to see... and all of them were rated PG-13.

Skate with the Devils

Michael and I went to a "Skate with the Devils" event.  We met their Goalie, Martin Brodeur, and lots of other players.  I was surprised at how down-to-earth they were.  The players we met were happy to talk with us, and they seemed humbled by the fact that we wanted their picture.

Record snow 2014

We had a record snowfall this season - we haven't seen grass since December.  This shopping cart at the Ledgewood Mall looks like it got stuck in a glacier.  Michael mentioned to me yesterday that he can't wait to bring out the baseball and gloves so we can play catch in the yard.  Hopefully spring is right around the corner.

Michael and Joey Do Some Landscaping

John Miller from Miller Diesel Service brought his tow truck down to Roxbury Fire Station 1 last night so we could pull some bushes out with his winch.  After some brief instructions, John handed the controls over to Michael and Joey and let them do the work.  Both boys had smiles from ear to ear!

New creation

Joey took the creme from the center of my Oreo and made his own double-stuffed lemon/vanilla/chocolate creation.  It looked good but I didn't get a bite.

Garage Sale

It's been a long time coming, but we finally held our garage sale.  We didn't do it for the money, we did it to defray the cost of the dumpster needed to get rid of all the old junk accumulating in our basement.  As it turns out we sold most of the stuff we put out and actually made a few hundred dollars.

Our little entrepreneurs set up a lemonade stand and donated the proceeds to a charity called Alex's Lemonade Stand.  They charged 25 cents a cup and made about $29.00.

Towel Swinging

I used to do this with Michael and Joey after bath time, but they got too big and I can't do it with them anymore.  Luckily I still have Ryan...

Pressure Washing

What's the worst that could happen here?

Mother's Day Tea

Danielle joined Ryan for the annual Mother's Day Tea at Redeemer Lutheran (his nursery school) on Monday.  Ryan even got on stage with his classmates and sang a song!

Wet Ones

Joey can find humor in just about anything - even stuff in the checkout aisle.  But seriously, what's not funny about flatulation?

Curly, Larry, and Moe.

Science Fair

The boys presented their projects at the Civic Center on Saturday.  Both of them received certificates and medals.  Way to go guys!

St. Baldrick's

Thanks to all who donated to Michael's team... He looks good with a buzz cut!

Growing up

The boys are growing up right under my nose, and sometimes I don't realize it until I see them in suits.

This morning, Ryan asked me to take him to school.  I seized the moment and drove him even though it made me late for work.  The office will always be there, but there will certainly come a day when the boys will stop asking me to take them to school.

Christmas Lights

In the neighborhood Danielle grew up in, families had a tradition of placing candles in paper bags along the sidewalks on Christmas Eve.  Hopefully we can convince the people in our new neighborhood to do the same thing.

Rutgers Game

I brought Danielle and the boys to my company's annual Rutgers Football Tailgate party.  It was Michael and Joey's first football game.  Looking back, now I realize that college games are much better for kids than NFL games.

Hitchiker

Just another way to get around the hockey rink.
